ITA organizes 1st OCERT Ambassadors Gathering
The Information Technology Authority (ITA), represented by Oman’s National Computer Emergency Readiness Team (OCERT) organized the first OCERT Ambassadors gathering yesterday at the InterContinental Hotel Muscat. The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA, and with the presence of representatives from government and private institutions, civil society institutions, some national committees, OCERT Ambassadors and ITA staff.
The aim of the OCERT Ambassadors Program is to broaden OCERT’s knowledge sharing with the public, college students and local information security professionals. Hence, the gathering was organized to showcase ambassadors’ efforts achieved since the program was launched in 2011, highlight the upcoming 2014 plan and activities, honor and recognize Active ambassadors and receive ambassadors’ comments, feedback, opinions and ideas to further develop the program.
425 Ambassadors
In his speech at the event, Eng. Badr Ali Al-Salehi, Director General of OCERT, highlighted the different society segments’ responses to wishing to join the program, adding that the number of ambassadors to date has reached 425 members, 108 of whom are specialists, 195 are academics and 122 participate as general ambassadors. Mr. Al Salehi also spoke about the centers’ initiatives in the field of information security, including producing an e-book and online awareness campaign, as well as hosting the OCERT Ambassadors Forum in 2012, which was helpful in establishing a link between academic and specialist ambassadors.
